“Somehow I was under the mistaken assumption that Busoni’s piano concerto was one of his late works and would be dark and mystical,” Marc Andre Hamelin reports. “But it turned out to be this gloriously rich and serene work, and I knew it had to be played. Then, I worked to get it under my fingers and realized it is a bear.”
